Greece analyst and Europe consultant, Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU)
Joan Hoey is a Europe consultant at the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), sister organisation of The Economist newspaper. She is a former director for Europe in EIU’s Country Analysis division. Joan was editor of EIU’s annual Democracy Index, a leading measure of global democracy, from 2014-24. She is an expert in European political economy, with a special interest in democracy, governance, political risk, geopolitics, the Balkans and Eastern Europe’s post-communist transition.
