Theodore Tryfon

Co-chief executive, Elpen Group, president, PanHellenic Union of Pharmaceutical Industries (PEF)

Born in Mytilini, Lesvos, Theodore E. Tryfon was educated at Athens College and holds a BSc in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Southampton, followed by an MBA from City University Business School in London.

He joined ELPEN in 1992 and has since played a defining role in its evolution into a vertically integrated pharmaceutical group with a strong international presence. Today, ELPEN ranks among Greece’s leading pharmaceutical manufacturers, with a turnover of €500 million (2025), exporting to over 90 countries worldwide, and a workforce exceeding 1,700 employees in Greece and abroad. The group combines industrial scale with advanced innovation capabilities, operating four production facilities in Pikermi and Keratea (Attica), as well as the largest private research and experimental centre in Spata, the Athens LifeTech Park. Internationally, ELPEN continues to expand its footprint through strategic subsidiaries, including ELPEN PHARMA GmbH in Berlin and ELPEN MEA in Dubai, strengthening its presence in key European and Middle Eastern markets.

Since 2014, Mr Tryfon has served as president of the Panhellenic Union of Pharmaceutical Industries (PEF), representing 56 pharmaceutical companies and 51 production sites across Greece. In this capacity, he has been a consistent advocate for strengthening domestic and European manufacturing, enhancing health care system resilience, and advancing the global competitiveness of the Greek pharmaceutical sector. At European level, his role as executive member of Medicines for Europe places him at the centre of policy discussions shaping the future of generic and value-added medicines across the European Union.

Since 2029, he has contributed to the broader business community as a member of the board of the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV) and acting president of the Industrial Policy Committee reinforcing the critical link between industrial policy and sustainable economic development.
