Alice Wells

Ambassador (Ret.) Alice G. Wells is ExxonMobil’s executive vice-president for Europe, based in Brussels. She is responsible for leading the company’s engagement with European Union institutions and EU member state governments on key policy priorities. Previously, she served as ExxonMobil’s senior director for international government relations in Washington, DC, where she oversaw policy engagement across Europe and Eurasia.

Before joining ExxonMobil in 2020, Ms Wells had a distinguished career as a US diplomat. She served as acting assistant secretary of state for South and Central Asia from 2017 to 2020 and as US ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan from 2014 to 2017. Earlier senior roles included special assistant to the president for Russia and Central Asia on the National Security Council, executive assistant to secretary of state Hillary Clinton, and executive assistant to under-secretary of state for political affairs William J. Burns. Her overseas diplomatic assignments included postings in Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Pakistan, India, Russia, and Jordan, as well as multiple roles within the Department of State.
