Anne Marr

Director, Jewellery, Textiles & Materials

Anne is currently the programme director for Jewellery, Textiles and Materials at Central Saint Martins based at the University of the Arts London (UAL). Her programme includes BA Jewellery Design, BA Textile Design, MA Material Futures and MA Biodesign and has sustainable and regenerative design practice at the core of its educational manifesto.

Anne is also a researcher at the Textile Future Research Community (TFRC) and was previously appointed Professor for Textile Design in Hamburg, Germany. She has worked as a textile designer and design consultant for a wide range of international industry clients.

Anne’s research is based around the socio-cultural context of textiles, particularly the area of Urban Fabric - exploring interdisciplinary textile-based approaches to respond to societal or urban needs and co-create more empathetic communities.

In her work Anne aims to stimulate social innovation as well as pushing the boundaries of sustainable pattern and material design through non-hierarchical collaborations which amplify diverse urban experiences and promote local ownership.

Recent projects such as Threads and Yarns, supported by the Wellcome Trust, and Patterns of Perception with English National Ballet and UCL’s Centre for Human Neuroimaging investigate the possibilities of craft engagement in order to enable intergenerational exchange as well as collecting and communicating personal narratives around public health and wellbeing.
