Constantinos Arvanitopoulos was born in Piraeus (1960). He graduated from Ionideios School in 1977.
He received his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Panteion University (1982) and his studies in International Relations with an MA and a PhD from the School of International Service at the American University, Washington DC.
Constantinos Arvanitopoulos has lectured on International Relations and Comparative Politics at the American University (1987-89). He was a post-doctoral Fellow at the Center for European Studies at Harvard University (1990- 92) and an Assistant Professor of Government and European Politics at George Mason University (1992-95).
He currently serves as a Professor of International Relations at Panteion University, Athens. He has represented Greece at the Senate of the European University of Florence (2004-2009).
He was the Director General of the Constantinos Karamanlis Institute for Democracy (July 2000-December 2009), the spokesperson for the party of New Democracy (National Elections of September 2007). Between 2009 and 2011, Constantinos Arvanitopoulos was the Director of the Political Office of the President of New Democracy. He was appointed Minister of Education, Lifelong Learning and Religion in the coalition Government of Lucas Papademos (November 11th, 2011). On May 6th 2012, he was elected member of the Greek Parliament with the party of New
Democracy and was reelected and appointed as Minister of Education, Religious Affairs, Culture and Sport in the general election of June 17th, 2012.
