Christine Gartner has been working at the ECB since 1998. She held various positions in the Directorate General Economics (DGE) and Statistics. Currently she is senior lead eonomist in the Euro Area External Sector and Euro Adoption Division of DGE focussing on: convergence analysis of non-euro area EU countries; functioning of to the exchange rate mechanism (ERM II); and euro adoption. Since 2016 she has been the main coordinator of the ECB Convergence Reports.
Christine has ample experience in monitoring CEE economies including mission work in regular and in crisis times. Prior to the ECB, Christine worked at the Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB). Among other tasks she was actively involved in the OeNB activities related to transferring central banking knowledge to CEE countries in transition.
Christine has actively participated and presented in many international conferences and meetings. Throughout her career, she has completed a range of publications and delivered speaking engagements on a broad spectrum of EU and ECB-related topics, including the preparation for euro adoption.
Christine holds a Master´s Degree in Economics from the University of Vienna, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Economics from the Institute for Advanced Studies in Vienna and an MA in “Intercultural Competencies” from Danube University Krems (Austria).
