Dorin Recean

Dorin Recean is the prime minister of the Republic of Moldova, a position he has held since 2023. He has had a distinguished career in both public service and academia. With a robust educational background, Mr Recean holds a degree in international business management from the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova and a Ph.D. in economics from the Free International University of Moldova.

Dorin Recean’s career in public service began in 2010 when he was appointed deputy minister of information technology and communications. He played a pivotal role in introducing biometric passports in the Republic of Moldova, modernising telecommunications infrastructure and enhancing cybersecurity measures. His leadership and innovative approaches led to his appointment as minister of internal affairs in 2012, where he was instrumental in implementing significant reforms in law enforcement and public safety, strengthening Moldova’s national security framework. He was also responsible for the implementation of the Action Plan on Visa Liberalisation with the EU, granted to the Republic of Moldova in 2014.

In 2023, Dorin Recean was appointed prime minister. He focused on economic development, anti-corruption measures, and strengthening Moldova’s ties with the European Union. Under his leadership, the government has initiated several economic reforms aimed at improving the business climate and attracting foreign investments. It also held its first intergovernmental Republic of Moldova – European Union interministerial conference, marking the opening of the accession negotiations for the country’s future membership within the EU.
