Vaggelis Abeliotis graduated from the department of business administration  of the Athens University of Economics in 1979. His postgraduate studies focus on business taxation and cost accounting. 

He has worked as chief accountant in industrial and commercial firms. Since 1986 he has been running an accounting and tax office as a business consultant. In 1998 he founded Union Programming Group Ltd, a company producing software applications, while he further engaged in the field of analysis and planning. In 2000, Mr Abeliotis created an application connecting a payroll programme with collective agreements, arbitration awards and local and sectoral agreements, an innovation for the Greek market where it was first introduced, as well as other innovative applications. He is also a management consultant at Computer Application SA. In 2014, he founded Abeliotis & Associates, a company that specializes in business tax audit issues in cooperation with lawyers and economists. Mr Abeliotis also provides services as a tax consultant in large business groups. 

He is a member of the Economic Chamber of Greece and the tax committee of the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce. He has participated in committees of the Greek Ministry of Finance as a tax consultant. He is a regular speaker at tax seminars of the Economic Chamber of Greece.
