Flora Bacopoulou

Head, HTA Committee, Hellenic Ministry of Health, Associate professor of pediatrics – adolescent medicine

Dr Flora Bacopoulou is associate professor of Pediatrics-Adolescent Medicine of the Medical School, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She is head of the tertiary “Center for Adolescent Medicine” that hosts the UNESCO chair in Adolescent Health Care. 

She holds a Pharmacy Degree, a Medical Degree, a PhD degree in Biopharmaceutics/Pharmacokinetics and the subspecialty of Clinical Pharmacology. She specialized in Pediatrics in the United Kingdom and further subspecialized in Adolescent Medicine at the University of Athens and in the USA (Michigan State University, Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development-NIH, Children’s National Medical Center-Washington DC). 

Professor Bacopoulou has participated in 7 funded research programs, has published 217 research papers in international peer-reviewed journals including The Lancet και Nature Medicine, one book, 16 chapters and co-edited 3 books. She has participated in conferences/meetings with 199 presentations and 138 lectures. 

Since January 2020, Professor Bacopoulou heads the Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Committee of the Hellenic Ministry of Health. She is the representative of Greece in the Member State Coordination Group on HTA of Medicinal Products, in the subgroups for Joint clinical assessments, Joint Scientific Consultations, Development of Methodological and Procedural Guidance, Identification of Emerging Health Technologies, in the Working Group on HTA, in the PICO exercises and in the Parallel EMA/HTA body Scientific Advice during the Interim Period. She is also member of the European HTA Heads of Agencies Group (HAG), the HAG Communication Working Group, and has been member of the Consortium Executive Board of EUnetHTA 21.
