George Aftias was born in Athens and raised in Samos.
He studied Public Law and Political Science at the Law School of the University of Athens. He is a member of the Greek Association of Journalists and the Union of European Journalists. He was awarded in 2000 with the introduction of the EURO currency, by the Botsis Foundation for his reports on the European Union, its currency and its institutions. The same year he developed the importance of the EURO currency at a US economic conference. For his participation in this, he was also awarded by the Union of European Journalists in 2001.
A regular staff member for many years at ATHENA 9.84, on ANT1 television and radio, presenter of the daily morning shows on ALPHA, ALTER and SKAI. He has travelled to the USA and Australia, where he informed our compatriots on economic issues. He has worked for IMERISSIA, ADESMEFTO TYPO, PARAPOLITIKA, APOGEYMATINI and a series of economic magazines. He has written 2 books on the economy and insurance and hundreds of articles on the everyday life of Greeks.
In the 2024 European elections, George Aftias was elected MEP with the New Democracy party, first in votes.
