Congressman Gus Bilirakis was first elected to the US House of Representatives in 2006 after serving eight years in the Florida Legislature. He is a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, chairman of the Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade Subcommittee, and a member of both the Health Subcommittee and the Communications and Technology Subcommittee.
For nearly 20 years, congressman Bilirakis has co-chaired the Congressional Caucus on Hellenic Affairs and founded and co-chairs the Congressional Hellenic-Israel Alliance. Together with his previous service on the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe, congressman Bilirakis has been a leader in the US Congress on enhancing the relationship between the US, Greece, Cyprus and Israel. His legislative initiatives have secured meaningful defence, energy, and commercial co-operation in the eastern Mediterranean among US allies that has served as a bulwark against Turkish intransigence.
