Harry Theoharis

Harry Theoharis was born on August 6th 1970, in Athens. He holds an MEng (Hons) in software engineering from Imperial College London and has served in senior roles in both multinational corporations and technology start-ups. He entered politics in 2015 and joined the New Democracy party in December 2018. From 2011 to 2012, as secretary general for information systems, he launched digital public services that significantly reduced bureaucracy. He later served as secretary general for public revenues (2013–2014), achieving fiscal surplus targets and introducing the transparency platform www.publicrevenue.gr.

In 2019 he was appointed minister of tourism, where he successfully navigated Greece’s tourism sector through the covid-19 crisis. He led the internationally recognized reopening strategy, positioning Greece as a safe and attractive destination. He also promoted thematic and sustainable tourism, and initiated the digital travel certificate later adopted by the EU. He then served as parliamentary spokesperson for New Democracy (2021–2023).

In 2023, he was re-elected to Parliament and appointed deputy minister of finance for taxation (2023–2024), where he championed transparency, efficiency, and investment-friendly reforms. In autumn 2024, he was nominated as Greece’s candidate for Secretary-General of the UN World Tourism Organization, running a widely recognized international campaign.

On June 30, 2025, he assumed his current role as deputy minister of foreign affairs, responsible for economic diplomacy and enhancing Greece’s international presence.

He is married to Dimitra Rigogianni and is the father of four children.
