Kostis Hatzidakis was appointed deputy prime minister of Greece in March 2005. Prior to this position, he was the minister of economy and finance of the Hellenic Republic, a member of the Hellenic Parliament, and vice-president of the New Democracy party. Kostis Hatzidakis was born in Rethymno, Crete, in 1965 and is a lawyer.
He was a member of the European Parliament from 1994 to 2007. He has been a member of the Hellenic Parliament since 2007, representing Athens B1 constituency (North). He has served as president of the Youth Organisation of New Democracy (1992-94), member of the European Parliament (1994-2007), minister of transport (2007-09), minister of development (2012-14), minister of environment and energy (2019-21), minister of labour and social affairs (2021-23).
