Iakovos Petropouleas

Dr Iakovos Petropouleas is an internationally recognised security, resilience, and crisis management expert with more than 20 years of experience advising governments, critical infrastructure operators, and private-sector organisations across six continents.

He currently serves as principal advisor for the MENA region to the CEO of Vigilis Group, an intelligence-led risk management, advisory, and in-extremis response firm, providing strategic guidance on security risk management, crisis preparedness, and resilience planning in complex operating environments. He also advises on European security and resilience matters, focusing on critical infrastructure protection, risk governance, and emerging threats.

Dr Petropouleas has held leadership roles in several European Union security and resilience research initiatives, serving as head of physical security research teams. His doctoral research focused on protecting critical infrastructure and high-value facilities from asymmetric threats through resilience-based risk mitigation strategies.

Throughout his career, he has supported public authorities, international organisations, and corporate leaders in strengthening security frameworks, enhancing emergency preparedness, and improving crisis response and recovery capabilities. A respected lecturer, researcher, and trainer, he regularly delivers executive-level seminars and teaches in postgraduate programmes at leading European institutions, helping develop the next generation of security and resilience professionals while advancing best practices across the security sector globally.
