Joong Shik Kang

Joong Shik Kang, a national of Korea, is mission chief for Greece and Romania at the International Monetary Fund’s European Department. He was previously deputy mission chief for China and mission chief for Hong Kong SAR and Republic of the Marshall Islands. He was also assistant to the director of the Asia and Pacific Department.

He has wide-ranging country experience at the IMF, having worked on Bangladesh, China, Grenada, Hong Kong SAR, Japan, Mongolia, Papua New Guinea, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. He also worked in the IMF’s Research Department on several multilateral surveillance issues, including the world economic outlook, G20 surveillance, and commodities. His research interests and publications focus on a variety of topics, including international risk sharing, internal devaluation in the euro area, global rebalancing, global spillovers, and exchange rates.

He has a Ph.D. from University of Wisconsin at Madison and a B.S. from Seoul National University.
