Klaus is a physician by training and obtained his license to practice medicine in 1984. After working in different hospitals, he was accredited as Anesthesiologist in 1989. Between 1990 and 2001 Klaus worked as Senior physician and Chief Consultant in the anesthesiology and intensive care medicine department of an academic teaching hospital in Germany.
In 2001 Klaus joined the Market Access team at Pfizer Germany which he led from 2006 to May 2010. In May 2010 Klaus joined Sanofi Pasteur MSD (SPMSD), the vaccine Joint venture of Sanofi and Merck, as Senior Director Scientific and Medical Affairs & Market Access Germany and was appointed as Managing Director in July, 2011.
After the termination of the joint venture Klaus was appointed Executive Business Director Vaccines of MSD Sharp & Dohme in Germany in January, 2017. On April 1st, 2019 he took over the role of MSD Germany’s Country Medical Director. Since February 1st, 2022 Klaus is leading the Global Value & Implementation organization in Europe, Middle East, Africa and Canada as vice-president.
Klaus holds a PhD in Medicine of the University of Magdeburg and a degree in Health Economics from the European Business School (ebs).
