Lois Labrianidis is a retired Professor of the Department of Economics at the University of Macedonia. He is an economic geographer (BA – Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki 1977, MA - Sussex 1978, Ph.D. - LSE 1983), and coordinates the Regional Development and Policy Research Unit. His main research interests are : economic/ regional development, migration - highly skilled migration, delocalization of economic activities, spatial aspects of subcontracting, development of rural areas/ rural entrepreneurship.  He was the scientific coordinator of 16 major research projects (e.g. The changing geography of production in labour intensive industries, EC FP6 και The future of Europe’s Rural Periphery, EC FP5).
