Manolis Tsiknakis

Professor of biomedical informatics and eHealth

Manolis Tsiknakis is professor of biomedical informatics at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU) and an associate research professor at the Computational Biomedicine Laboratory of the Foundation for Research and Technology (FORTH). 
He has been the scientific coordinator or technical lead of several large EU-funded collaborative projects. Currently, he coordinates the ProCAncer-I project (https://www.procancer-i.eu/), an ambitious effort focused on the development of an AI platform that integrates imaging and clinical data and artificial intelligence models, to support prostate cancer care. He also has significant technical involvement in the development of Cancer Image Europe (https://cancerimage.eu/), a pioneering federated European cancer imaging data infrastructure. 

Dr Tsiknakis was the winner of the eEurope/eHealth award in 2003 and the recipient of the FORTH award for the most innovative applied research in 2004. Several of his papers presented at international conferences have received the best paper award. His main areas of expertise include biomedical informatics and engineering, approaches for the semantic integration of health data and the interoperability of health information systems, affective computing and the sensor-based recognition of human activities in smart living environments. 

He is the author of more than 450 publications in international scientific books, scientific journals and high-quality conferences, which have received more than 8100 citations (h-index 45).
