Maria Avgoustidou MD, ehem.OÄ, FÄ, was born and raised in Thessaloniki, where she attended with a scholarship the secondary education and was admitted to the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki with the 5th best score in the national examinations. She attended the 5th and 6th year of the medicine school in Germany where she stayed for more than 12 years.
She specialized in oncology/hematology at clinics in North Rhine/Westphalia and at university clinics at the University of Düsseldorf and subsequently became a consultant and deputy director at the St. Lukas Clinic in Solingen.
She has also worked in university clinics at the University of Münster and in Frankfurt Oder, with clinical experience in more than 9500 cancer cases across the whole spectrum of oncology. She has participated in clinical trials of innovative drugs and sits on oncology boards in leading European and American hospitals, in particular for rare and advanced tumors.
She specialized in palliative medicine in Germany and obtained after examination the highest state certification title, having particular clinical experience in the care and treatment of end-stage patients. She continuously participates as a keynote speaker in oncology conferences in Greece and Europe and is a trainer of Palliative Medicine in Greece as well as a clinical oncology trainer at the European University of Cyprus. She is member of various international and greek scientific societies.
