Mario Bikarski

Analyst for Europe

Mario Bikarski is an analyst in the Europe team for EIU. He has been with the company since January 2020. He focuses on macroeconomic and political analysis of east European countries including the Balkans, Russia and the countries of the former Soviet Union. He has deep understanding of intra-regional trends and wider east European political and economic developments. Mario Bikarski specialises in geopolitics, international relations, politics, macroeconomics, as well as sovereign and political risk. At the EIU he is engaged with economic forecasting and analysis and currently has a particular focus on the war in Ukraine. He has also worked on EIU's Democracy Index for the 2020 and 2021 editions focusing on Eastern Europe and identifying cross-regional democratic trends, including electoral freedoms, civil liberties and political culture. 

Prior to joining EIU, Mario Bikarski worked in the area of financial crime, with a similar country focus. He has completed a Master of Arts in Politics and Central and East European Studies at the University of Glasgow, and a Master of Science in Russian Politics and Society at King's College London.

He is native in Bulgarian and also speaks English and Russian.Â
