Pierre Moscovici

Pierre Moscovici has been a member of the European Court of Auditors since 1 January 2026. Previously, he served as first president of the French Cour des comptes from June 2020, also chairing the Budgetary and Financial Discipline Court, the High Council of Public Finance and the Council of Mandatory Contributions.

A graduate of Sciences Po Paris, with post-graduate studies in macroeconomics and philosophy, he joined the Cour des comptes in 1984 after graduating from the École nationale d’administration (ENA).

His career combines public administration, European affairs and elected office. After serving in ministerial and planning roles, he was elected to the European Parliament in 1994 and to the French National Assembly in 1997. He then became minister for European affairs and represented France at the Convention on the Future of Europe.

Returning to the Cour des comptes in 2002, he resumed his parliamentary career in 2004, when he was re-elected to the European Parliament and became one of its vice-presidents. In 2007 and 2012, he was again elected to the French National Assembly for the Doubs constituency. Between 2008 and 2012, he chaired the urban area of Montbéliard before serving as France’s minister of economy and finance from 2012 to 2014.

From 2014 to 2019, Pierre Moscovici was European commissioner for economic and financial affairs, taxation and customs. Following this mandate, he returned to the Cour des comptes and was appointed its first president in 2020.

He is an affiliated professor at Sciences Po Paris and a visiting professor at Columbia University and the College of Europe. He is a Knight (Chevalier) of the Legion of Honour.
