Stefanos Kasselakis was born in Athens in 1988. At the age of 14 he migrated to the United States, after succeeding the mathematics award in the Archimedes competition of the Greek Mathematical Society. Due to that award, he was accepted with a full scholarship as a student, at the Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts.
Earning the Andreas Dracopoulos Scholarship, he completed successfully the Huntsman program studies at the University of Pennsylvania, in the fields of finance and international sciences.
In 2008, while still being a student, he joined as a volunteer the staff of the -by that time- Senator Joe Biden for the Presidential elections, as well as at the think tank of the foreign policy "Center for Strategic and International Studies".
In 2009 after his graduation, he was appointed at Goldman Sachs.
In 2015, at the age of 26, he started his independent career in the broader maritime industry.
As a self-made entrepreneur and investor in shipping business, he became the CEO of the ship-owning company "SwiftBulk".
He is experienced in financial markets, commodities, startups, international trade market, shipping business, industry, fishing trade, and investment management. He carries a deep knowledge regarding entrepreneurship, corporate governance, and ESG issues.
He speaks fluently Greek, English, German, French, and Spanish.
In 2023, he was a candidate for parliament with SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance and a member of the Election Committee.
In September 2023 he became the leader of the Main Opposition Party in Greece, after he was democratically elected by the members of the SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance Party.
In September 2024, he left SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, in October of the same year, founded a new political party called the “Movement for Democracy”.
In March 2025, the “Movement for Democracy" joined the European political party of the "European Democrats - EDP/PDE”.
