Toula Onoufriou

Professor, Cyprus University of Technology, President

Toula Onoufriou is president of the Cyprus Hydrocarbons Company, the commercial and technical arm of the Republic of Cyprus on exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons and renewables. She is also professor of Infrastructure Reliability and Management in the Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics at Cyprus University of Technology, founder and head of the EMERGE CoE Energy Research Centre and academic visitor at Imperial College (UK).

She combines experience from academia and the offshore energy industry internationally, where she held positions of high responsibility as president, vice-rector, head of department, director of research, head of research centre and senior consultant. Professional distinctions and awards include: EGYPS 2020 “Women in Energy Leadership Award” for the Mediterranean and North Africa region; Stanley Gray Award by the Institute of Marine Engineers UK for the best publication in marine technology; award of the prestigious SmartEN Marie Curie ITN Programme on “Smart Management for Sustainable Human Environment”.

She served as president, vice-chair or member of National (Cyprus, UK) and international bodies advising on national strategy for energy, hydrocarbons, research, innovation, entrepreneurship and other specialist areas. She is the Chair of the Advisory Board of the Eastern Mediterranean Energy Conference (EMC 2021, EMC 2023) with a focus on Driving Clean, Reliable Solutions to European Energy Demand. She led several research programs funded from national sources, EU and industry.

Research interests focus on digitilization of marine energy infrastructure and environment, smart proactive design and management of infrastructure systems and networks with applications in offshore structures and bridges and in the management of a sustainable marine environment.
