Viktor Berishaj

Western Balkans energy and climate policy coordinator

Viktor Berishaj is an economist with extensive experience in sustainable development issues in the civil society sector in Kosovo. He currently is the Western Balkans Energy and Climate Policy Coordinator at Climate Action Network (CAN) Europe in Brussels. Viktor’s focus is the energy and climate ambition of the Western Balkans and exploring the utilisation of possibilities to achieve them, namely through the Energy Community Treaty and the accession process.

Viktor’s expertise is in exploring the credible pathways to reach climate neutrality in the Western Balkans. He has published several studies and papers on this issue, focusing on the 2030 energy and climate targets. Currently he is focusing on enablers of the decarbonisation sector in the Western Balkans, primarily on carbon pricing and deployment of renewable energy sources.

Social justice and inclusion remains an overarching focus in his work, that is why his focus remains on just and equitable transition of not only the coal regions, but the society as a whole. As a representative of one of the largest CSO networks in Europe, he has been engaging in the proceedings around the Coal Regions in Transition Platform for Western Balkans and Ukraine.
